Manuel Carbone is an Italian sound experimentalist and noise artist from Naples, currently based in Berlin.
Guided by a profound fascination for the rawest aspects of acousmatic music, in his practice he embraces errors, glitches, and distortions as essential elements to challenge conventional auditory perceptions.
Carbone’s sonic palette is diverse, weaving together found and synthesized sounds, field recordings and cassette loops to construct immersive aural landscapes. Central to his vision is the exploration of recollection, memory, and hauntology, and each composition serves as a medium for introspection.
Collaboration plays a pivotal role in Manuel Carbone’s process, as he believes in the power of collective exploration and shared creativity. Through collaborative works, he draws inspiration from the intersection of diverse perspectives, resulting in sonic experiences that transcend individual boundaries and resonate on a communal level.
Alongside his artistic practice, he curates a bi-monthly radio show for Radio WORM, Rotterdam, titled Continuoussoundscontinuous, and is a resident at Radio Alhara with Astrazioni, Bethlehem, where he presents a monthly series of mixes.
Manuel Carbone has released solo and collaborative works via German non-profit interdisciplinary label Adventurous Music, as well as through Dragon’s Eye Recordings, Falt, Steep Gloss and Minimal Resource Manipulations.

RECENT PROJECTS
framework:afield // framework radio, January 25th 2026, 23:00 UTC+1
The eerie stillness of the Phlegraean Fields slowly dissolves into the reassuring chaos of the streets of my hometown, Naples. From the silence of a ghostly hotel room in Milan to September’s acqua alta in Venice, invaded by curious and confused tourists. Then come my favorite hideaways in Berlin and along the Rhine in Cologne, where I think of my best friend and our long walks together.
Radio signals echo cherished memories and spark new experiments. These are walks captured with semi-professional gear, half-broken old digital recorders, and the voice memo app on my phone. Some recordings remain unedited and raw; others are reworked and heavily manipulated, reshaping my memories and sharing them anew.
Acherusia, Errant Sound, Berlin, October 23rd to 26th (solo and impro set with Vittoria Assembri)
(Installation: panels, photographs on paper, found objects, transducers.
Live performance: multichannel sound system, field recordings, samplers, digital and analog effects.)
Acherusia is a sound installation and live performance whose core elements are soundwalks recorded in both natural and urban settings surrounding the Phlegraean Fields, a vast volcanic area west of Naples, Italy.
In the installation, the recordings are presented alongside photographs and found objects collected on-site, linking audio to the visible and material traces of the landscape.
During the live performance, the sounds are manipulated and mixed to form a shifting narrative that intertwines childhood memories with present-day concerns about the fragility of both urban and natural environments.
Acherusia examines how everyday life continues, pauses, or almost disappears in a place where the ground itself is in constant shift. By contrasting environmental sounds with traces of human activity, the work reveals the delicate balance between people and their surroundings and invites reflection on how communities adapt or retreat in a precarious landscape that is constantly changing.
n|a|ether at SOMA Art Berlin for EXGIRLFRIEND and SOFT LAUNCH, May 31st, 2025
n|a|ether is an electro-acoustic performance that explores the hidden sonic dimensions of our technology-saturated environments. It features sounds sourced from places where technology’s presence is overwhelming yet often unnoticed, heavily manipulated to reveal new textures and layers. These include electromagnetic signals captured with wide-band receivers, alongside field recordings of urban soundscapes made using conventional digital recorders.
The performance oscillates between intense, dissonant bursts of noise and moments of structured melodic clarity, creating a dynamic tension between chaos and harmony. By amplifying imperceptible electromagnetic fields, radio waves, and pure frequencies alongside familiar urban sounds, n|a|ether highlights the pervasive influence of technology on our sensory experience.

I Hope This Will Resonate With You
(sound files, co-creational process, amplification. Presented at Errant Sound, Berlin, July 21st to 27th, 2023. Ongoing development)
With I Hope This Will Resonate With You I am engaging in a collaborative act in order to create momentary relationships and produce a keepsake for the listener, a short composition based on chances and errors as well as reflection and confidentiality, by shifting the focus from the use of the Tarot cards as a means to analyse or disclose personal situations to their employment as a tool for musical composition, loosely drawing inspiration from John Cage’s methodology of using the book of I Ching as a guideline for his works. During the past years I have been deepening my interest in the arts of the Tarot as a tool for spiritual development and self growth, focussing on the significance of the universal symbology of the Major Arcana as archetypes of the human experience.
I have asked fellow sound artists and friends to contribute with a one minute sound, for a total of 22 sounds. No instructions nor guidelines were provided and the contributors were free to send me any sound they had recorded and felt like sharing. Each sound collected has been then associated to a card of the Major Arcana. During the performance I am asking the participant to sit with me and have a brief conversation about the nature of the work. I am shuffling the deck of 22 cards and asking the participant to pick 4 cards. The resulting spread is forming the accidental score I am using to create a short composition unique to each participant. These sound collages are then forming a continuously evolving longer composition to be looped throughout the duration of the exhibition.
